What happens in the future?

Right now we live by faith in Jesus’ rule and glory, but soon there will be a “Day of the Lord” when Jesus’ rule and glory will be clearly seen by all people, and in verse 2 the Apostle Paul tells us the “Day of the Lord” could happen at any moment.

1 Thessalonians 5:2, “2 For you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord is coming just like a thief in the night.

Thieves tend not to ask for permission.  Thieves tend not to check our calendars to see if it is a good time to show up.  Thieves just show up, and it is similar with Jesus.

Jesus isn’t going to ask for permission.  Jesus isn’t going to give us a hint as to the day or time, but Jesus is going to show up and in verse 3 the Apostle Paul illustrates the return of Jesus to be like how a pregnant woman approaches the birth of a child.

How does a woman respond in labor?  She is surprised!  She knows she’s pregnant.  She knows a baby is coming.  She’s preparing for the baby to show up, but that baby is going to show up like a thief in the night!

In the same way, God’s Word is calling out to us today.  Are you ready? Like the home owner, “Are you preparing?” Like the pregnant woman, “Are you preparing?” Everyone is walking round with “peace and safety.”  Looking at Instagram, eating food, taking naps, and God’s Word is reminding us, “Jesus is coming!”

Some people might push back on how long it has been?  As though Jesus is caught in traffic, or overslept, but the Apostle Peter charges us to not mistake the Lord’s patience for slowness.  Jesus is going to return.

He parted the Red Sea, He called Lazarus out from the dead, and He conquered death in the resurrection.  Jesus isn’t going to stop now!

Therefore, the question is, “Are you ready for Jesus return?”  Have you called on the name of Jesus?  Have you confessed with your mouth that Jesus is Lord?  Have you believed in your heart that Jesus was raised from the dead, so that your life belongs to Him?  Are you ready for Jesus return?
