Malachi 4:2, “2 “But for you who fear My name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings; and you will go forth and skip about like calves from the stall.”
In Malachi 4, verse 2 we see the word, “but,” because in verse 1 the Lord says, “Behold a day of judgment is coming” but “for those who fear His name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings.”
It is important that every man, woman, and child is worthy of God’s judgment. We have all offended a holy and righteous God. We are all layered with arrogance and evil. Surely if you want to yell at someone for cutting you on the interstate you can see how our sin is worthy of judgment.
Please don’t push back on God’s judgment when every once of you goes crazy at the injustice in this world. Therefore, in Malachi 4 the Lord says, “Yes, there will be judgment, but all those who are in Christ will escape His judgment.”
It isn’t that the God of Scripture winks at evil, or brushes off evil and says, “No biggie!” No, evil is a big deal, and at the cross the God of Scripture does the unthinkable and takes that evil upon Himself at the cross.
Surely there is a part of us that says, “Well, if Jesus takes our judgment at the cross then how come there is still sin? How come there is still evil?” Haven’t you wondered that question? It’s a great question.
It is at the cross that Jesus takes the penalty of our sin. It is why the follower of Jesus is JUSTIFIED, or DECLARED RIGHTEOUS. Therefore, yes we will still see our sin today, but verse 2 is teaching us that one day our sin will be removed and there “will be healing in His wings.”
We won’t just be forgiven of sin, but all of sin will be removed. Gone! The sun of righteousness will shine upon you. Right now we are in central Texas and we try to avoid the sun, but on that day we will be in awe of the sun. Can you imagine!
